  • Egyptian European Council

Introduction

The Egyptian European Council (EEC) was founded in June 2003 by Egyptian businessmen, bankers, media persons, economists, industrialists, diplomats, politicians and academicians. The EEC is a Non-Governmental organisation of the Egyptian civil society, founded in June 2003, that aims at further strengthening relations between Egyptian institutions, corporations and organizations and their counterparts in the European Union member states. It encompasses a group of high-level businessmen, bankers, industrialists, diplomats, investors, academicians and legal experts.

Objectives

The Council’s prime mission is to promote better understanding and comprehension, facilitate business opportunities, exchange ideas and promote high standards in professional lines between European and Egyptian businessmen and intellectuals, by identifying synergies and vistas of collaboration that are not explored yet, or have not been exploited to the full.

The EEC's main objective is to establish a forum for the study of business in order to promote cooperation and further strengthen ties between Egypt and EU countries. This is to be done through similar councils, relevant associations, companies, corporations, chambers of commerce and industry, unions of foreign trade, think tanks, research centers and academies in both sides.


Activities

In order to achieve its objective, the Council will promote business through the following activities:

  • Regular dissemination of Egyptian/EU related business, economic and trade news

  • Providing a regular forum for discussion by organizing workshops and seminars on an ad hoc basis to explore practical ways and means to activate and clarify the provisions of the Egyptian European Association Agreement and the Industry Modernisation Programme, together with promoting small enterprises

  • Arranging meetings with appropriate government officials to tackle problems and discuss other current issues

  • Coordinating activities tandem with other similar bodies such as EU specialized agencies the economic, commercial, industrial, social, cultural, tourism and environmental fields

  • Assisting members in identifying non-traditional ways of finance for their trade and project finance such as forfeiting

  • Coordinating between representatives and ambassadors of the EU states, in order to enlarge scope of cooperation and understanding

  • Transferring European scientific technology, through close collaboration with R&D centers and institutes, in addition to helping factories to protect environment, and transform it to a healthy tourist sites

  • Developing a data base of the market of the EU countries as an integrated unit, and individually, and updating the Council's Website on the internet, on a regular basis, to be an authentic and beneficial reference for all concerned parties
     

Membership

Membership of the Council, both individual and corporate, is also open for European counterparts.
