Strategy for the National Programme of Prevention and Control of the Viral Hepatitis in Egypt Forum

Start Date: 31/01/2007 End Date: One Day Time: 9:00 a.m.
Location: Conference Hall – Second Floor, Kasr Al Aini Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University

Under the patronage of H.E. Prof. Hatem El-Gabaly Minister of Health and Population, the National Committee for Control and Prevention of the Viral Hepatitis in Egypt will organize a forum entitled "Strategy for the National Program of Prevention and Control of the Viral Hepatitis in Egypt." The forum will focus on approaches of the national strategy for prevention and control of viral hepatitis and suggest the implementation programmes.

The forum will be held at the conference hall, Kasr Al Aini Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University, on January 31, 2007 at 9:00 a.m.

Workshop on FP7 Agriculture, Food & Biotechnology Research Co-Operation Between the EU and the Mediterranean Partners

Location: Agricultural Research Center, Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University

Under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture & Land Reclamation – Agriculture Research Centre (AGERI), and European Commission Research DG - Biotechnology, Agriculture and Food Directorate a workshop on the FP7 Agriculture, Food & Biotechnology Research Co-Operation Between the EU and the Mediterranean Partners will be held on 11-12 February 2007, at the Agricultural Research Center, Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University.

It is intended to promote the launch of FP7 and networking between the EU and the Mediterranean partners' scientific communities in the area of biotechnologies, food, agriculture and fisheries, in view of the first FP7 calls. It will be a timely opportunity for both European representatives and for the other Mediterranean countries represented to present its potential, priorities and needs in these fields in view of reinforced international co-operation in this area during FP7 and beyond.

The First Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial Conference on Higher Education and Scientific Research

Start Date: 18/06/2007

The first Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial Conference on Higher Education and Scientific Research, will be held in Cairo on Monday 18th June 2007. The conference will be co-chaired by H.E. Dr. Hany Helal, Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; H.E. Dr. Annette Schavan, German Minister of Education and Research, EU Presidency; and H.E. Dr. Janez Potocnik, European Commissioner for Science and Research.

The conference will be held at the JW Marriott Hotel Cairo, Ring Road, Mirage City, Kattameya, and will be attended by representatives of the ministries of Higher Education and Research of the 27 EU Member States and 10 Mediterranean countries. The conference aims at examining ways and means of developing co-operation in the field of scientific research, upgrading the quality of higher education and vocational training in Mediterranean Partner Countries, as well as standards of University Education.

A joint declaration will be issued at the end of the conference, entitled “Towards the Creation of a Euro-Mediterranean Higher Education and Research Area”, which will define guidelines for future co-operation among all Euro-Mediterranean countries. Education and Research, Technological Development and Innovation are of great importance to all Euro-Mediterranean partners This was confirmed by the Five-Year Work Programme agreed upon at the 2005 Barcelona Summit and emphasized by the conclusions of the 8th Euro-Mediterranean Conference of Ministers for Foreign Affairs in Finland in November 2006.

Workshop on FP7 Health Research Co-Operation Between the EU and the Mediterranean Partners

Euromed Workshop/Brokerage on Health to be organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in close collaboration and coordination with the European Commission Delegation in Egypt and the Egyptian NCP for Health.

The Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in close collaboration and coordination with the European Commission Delegation in Egypt and the Egyptian NCP for Health are organizing a Brokerage Event on the 29th and 30th of October 2007 to support the process of consortia building and scientific networking among researchers from the Mediterranean Partner Countries (MPC) and their European counterparts. The event will focus on Stem Cells, Cancer, Diabetes, Kidney Diseases, Liver Diseases and Health care systems in response to the health theme under FP7.

The event aims at:

  • Providing information on opportunities for EU-MEDA cooperation in health research under the health theme with special emphasis on Stem Cells, Cancer, Diabetes, Kidney Diseases, Liver Diseases and Health care systems.

  • Enhancing contacts and networking between MEDA researchers and their counterparts from the EU.

  • Exchanging experiences and defining actions that foster the regional priorities of the Health sector.

  • Coming up with regional priorities in the field of Health, that could be considered in outlining work programmes under FP7 Health thematic priority.

The workshop will be attended by several European stakeholders and potential applicants from Egypt and the Mediterranean partner countries. Speakers will be selected among participants.

The workshop will take place on the 29th and 30th of October 2007 and will be conducted through two days. The first day shall be devoted to plenary sessions that will have national, regional and European perspective. The second day is planned to have three parallel sessions to cover the three main pillars of Health thematic priority under FP7.
