EURO-MED YOUTH AWARDS IN CAIRO
H.E. Mr. Mahmoud El Beltagui, Minister of Youth and H.E.
Dr. Klaus Ebermann, Ambassador of the Delegation of the
European Commission in Egypt will inaugurate on
Thursday, 13 October at 9:00 a.m. the Euro-Mediterranean
Youth Awards conference in Cairo. The three-day
conference, which will be held at the Training Centre,
Cairo Tower Street in front of the Egyptian Football
Federation, El Gezira at Zamalek, brings together some
60 participants from 24 countries, who have submitted
the best projects for the “Euro-Med Youth Awards”. This
international event will be the high point of a week of
intercultural exchange and debate organised to mark the
celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Barcelona
Declaration and the achievements of the Euro-Med Youth
Programme.
The three-day conference aims at bringing the Euro-Med
Youth Programme and its achievements into the
spotlights, to share and promote good practices amongst
key actors and contribute to move partnership and
cooperation forwards. The agenda includes round tables,
workshops among key actors and participants on the role
of Euro-Med NGOs, a 'Partners' market' and the Euro-Med
Youth Awards ceremony.
The Euro-Med Youth Programme was launched in 1999. The
Programme supports youth exchanges, voluntary service
and various kinds of training and information activities
in the field of non formal education. Since its start,
it made available to young people from the 35 partner
countries a budget of €24 million (EGP 170 million). It
has financed more than 1,000 projects and has given some
25,000 young people and youth leaders the opportunity to
participate in mobility projects within the
Euro-Mediterranean area.
A National Coordination Office was established in Egypt
to support the implementation of the programme at the
local level. 1,000 young Egyptians have participated
until now in the various actions of the programme.
The “Euro-Med Youth Awards” are organised in partnership
by the Egyptian National Coordination Office for the
Euro-Med Youth Programme, SALTO-YOUTH Euro-Med Resource
Centre and the Euro-Med Youth Platform in cooperation
with the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for
the dialogue between cultures under the patronage of the
European Commission.
