2nd FEMIP Experts Committee Meeting:
25-26.10.2004 in Amsterdam
The 2nd Experts’ Committee of the
Facility for Euro-Mediterranean Investment and Partnership
(FEMIP) will meet on 25 and 26 October in Amsterdam, The
Netherlands. Its aim is to draw up practical proposals to be
submitted to the FEMIP Ministerial Meeting planned for June
2005 in Morocco. The meeting will be opened by Mr Gerrit
Zalm, Dutch Minister of Finance, and Mr Philippe de Fontaine
Vive, Vice-President of the EIB in charge of FEMIP, who will
also present the conclusions and proposals for the 2005
Ministerial Meeting. In a first session on water and
sanitation, chaired by Mr Gérard Payen, member of Kofi
Annan’s Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation and member of
the World panel on Financing Water for All”, participants
will look at the role of private sector participation (PSP)
and the appropriate financial instruments for developing the
sector in the Mediterranean Region, whilst exchanging views
based on the experience gained in several Mediterranean
Partner countries. A second session, chaired by Mr François
Lamoureux. Director-General at the Directorate-General for
Energy and Transport in the Euopean Commission, will be
devoted to transport and will focus on the possibility of
creating a Euro-Med Transport Network, viewed from both
developmental and management perspectives, and considering
possible private sector participation. Speakers will be
senior representatives of EU and Mediterranean Partners
countries’, banks, industry, business organisations,
academic institutions and the European Commission.
