Javier SOLANA,
EU High Representative for the CFSP,
to visit the Middle East
25-30 October 2006
Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common
Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), will visit the
Middle East from Wednesday, 25 October to Monday, 30
October 2006.
Mr Solana is travelling to the Middle-East to discuss
with political leaders the latest developments in the
region. He will concentrate in particular on efforts
towards an early resumption of the dialogue between the
two parties to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. His
trip will include stops in Israel, the Palestinian
Territories, Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt.
In Israel, on 25 and 26 October, Mr Solana will meet
Ehoud OLMERT, the Prime Minister, Tzipi LIVNI, the
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shimon PERES, the
Vice-Premier, and Amir PERETZ, the Minister of Defence.
In Ramallah, on 26 October, the High Representative will
meet Mahmoud ABBAS, the President of the Palestinian
Authority, as well as members of the civil society and
the business community. He will also visit the Iskar
refugee camp.
In Beirut, on 27 and 28 October, HR Solana will have a
working lunch with Fouad SINIORA, the President of the
Council of Ministers. He will also meet Faouzi SALLOUKH,
the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Nabih BERRI, the
President of the National Assembly, as well as
Monseigneur Nasrallah Boutros SFEIR, Patriarch of
Antioch. Mr Solana will also visit the UNIFIL
Headquarters and meet with General PELLIGRINI, the
Commander of the reinforced UNIFIL, to which EU Member
States made a substantial contribution.
In Amman, on 28 and 29 October, the High Representative
will be received by HM King ABDULLAH II. Mr Solana will
also meet Abdelelah AL KHATIB, the Minister of Foreign
Affairs.
In Cairo, on 29 and 30 October, Javier SOLANA will meet
President Hosny MUBARAK and Abul GHEIT, the Minister of
Foreign Affairs.
