EUROPEAN COMMISSIONER FOR
AGRICULTURE
MRS. MARIANN FISCHER BOEL
VISITS EGYPT FROM ON 2/3 DECEMBER
European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural
Development, Mrs. Mariann Fischer Boel, will visit Egypt
on 2nd and 3rd December, during which she will
participate in the 6th Meeting of the Ministers of
Agriculture, members of the International Centre for
Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies, which will
take place on Saturday, 2nd December in Cairo.
Commissioner Fischer Boel will deliver a speech on the
development of trade in agriculture between the
countries of the Barcelona Process which fall under the
European Neighbourhood Policy (Algeria, Egypt, Israel
Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria,
Tunisia). She will also tackle the reform process of the
Common Agricultural Policy, rural development issues and
the state of the Rabat Roadmap negotiations (liberalisation
of trade in agriculture, processed agriculture products
and fisheries between the EU and the southern
Mediterranean countries).
Commissioner Fischer Boel will also hold several
bilateral meetings with the participating agricultural
ministers from the region, notably H.E. Dr. Amin Abaza,
Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.
She will also meet with H.E. Eng. Rashid Mohamed Rashid,
Minister of Trade and Industry. Furthermore, she will
meet the agro-food industry in order to exchange views
on the sector. This is Commissioner Fischer Boel's first
visit to Egypt.
