SEMAT has the pleasure to announce the launch of the
Caravan Docu'n Short
Cairo (November 4th – 8th, 2007)
CARAVAN is a series of Euro-Arab film festivals held in a number of Arab and European cities, moving from city to city throughout the year, promoting cultural exchange and creating an opportunity for dialogue.
This year Caravan Docu'n Short brings recent long & short documentaries and short narratives, which will be screened in Cairo at the Ibdaa Creativity Center at the Cairo Opera House, some of which are:
- Cheerful Documentary "How to Cook Your Life" (Germany, 2007), Opening Film, selected in the 57th Berlin International Film Festival 2007, Berlin Special, a cooking class with Zen Priest & chef Edward Espe Brown directed by Doris Dorrie
- A funny, touching & gorgeous documentary "Blind Sight" (UK, 2006), Closing Film, selected in the 57th Berlin International Film Festival 2007, Panorama/Documentaries, extraordinary trip director Lucy Walker joined a blind mountaineer guiding & a blind teacher taking 6 blind pupils up climbing a 7045 meter high mountain, they not only faced the dangerous of climbing but also the beliefs of Tibetans who understand blindness to be a punishment for misconduct during a previous life.
- "Morente, Alhambra Day Dreams" (Spain, 2005) Musical documentary where Enrique Morente, one of the greatest living flamenco artist guides us on a visit of magic & feeling through Spain's best known & most visited monument; Granada's AlHambra.
- "The Sky is not always above" (Lebanon, 2007) directed by Mohamed Soueid
- "Rumi, Poetry of Islam" (Austria, 2007) by Houchang & Dariusch Allah Yari, the film examines the life, philosophy & poetry of one of the most important poets & mystics in the Islamic Cultural Sphere, Djalaledin Maulana Rumi (1207 to 1260). For centuries, he strongly influenced mysticism, poetry & music in the entire Eastern world.
Selected short Tunisian films from the "10 Courts/Dix Regards", produced in the framework of Documentary & Short Association workshop will be screened on the Tuesday 6th of November at 5p.m followed by a Q&A with the Tunisian producer & director Ibrahim Letaief
In addition to the screening of a number of selected documentaries produced by the Arab Institute of Film in Amman, some of them are "Bird of Stone" by Hazem el Hammawy,
"Lemon Flowers" by Pamela Ghanimeh, "Vision" by Dina Hamza & others,…
Palestinian Cinema is represented in this event by two documentaries "East to West"
by Inas I.Muthaffar & "A Ball & Coloring Box" by Liana Saleh produced by Shashat,
Q&A will be held with Alia Arsoughly, manager of Shashat & director Inas I. Muthaffar
