Mark in your calendar: Medibtikar Annual Conference in Cairo next 7th and 8th November
Cairo, 25th October 2007 – Medibtikar Head office;
The Euromed Innovation & Technology Programme - Medibtikar - is organizing its Annual Conference in Cairo on the 7th and 8th November 2007. Medibtikar is an EU funded project targeting the MEDA countries and its mission is to provide new and improved instruments to stimulate innovation at the firm and country levels.
The main theme of the Conference is to address how knowledge transfer across the region and between the region and the European Union can stimulate innovation in small companies in the MEDA area. In this context, international partnership appears to be a powerful means to cut the product development timeline, introduce innovations and facilitate adaptation to the new environments created by globalisation. The creation of regional networks will facilitate the creation of these partnerships. The Conference will also review models of existing initiatives, which support the development of cooperative projects between technical centers, business supporting organisations or government agencies. The two day Conference will address the following issues:
- New ways of developing business opportunities through innovation,
- How international networking improves economic development,
- MEDA national experiences in innovation,
- Territorial strategies to promote innovation in non innovative firms,
- Industrial partnership opportunities for innovation,
- Sectorial innovation problems in the MEDA countries.
H.E. Dr. Klaus Ebermann, Ambassador of the European Commission in Egypt, commented: “The Medibtikar program represents another milestone in the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, established at a Conference of Ministers of Foreign Affairs held in Barcelona in November 1995. This Partnership aims to create a common Euro-Mediterranean area of peace and stability; create links between peoples through a social, cultural and human partnership; and establish a zone of shared prosperity through an economic and financial partnership and the gradual establishment of a free-trade area.
The Medibtikar programme has as its final objective the facilitation of increased competitiveness in the region’s SMEs allowing them to penetrate new markets and increase bilateral trade links with the European Union”.
Mr. Richard Woodham, Programme Director, described Medibtikar’s activities; “the Medibtikar Programme after reviewing current innovation strategies will facilitate the transfer of knowledge across the region and from the countries of the European Union into the region. The ultimate aim of this knowledge transfer is to satisfy individual countries’ specific needs while achieving regional synergies and increasing the level of innovation in small companies”.
