EU-Egypt first sub-committee on political matters (2-3 June 2008, Brussels)


The Egypt Government and Senior European Union officials are meeting on 2-3 June in Brussels for the first "sub-committee on political matters: human rights and democracy, international and regional issues."

The meeting established under the European Neighbourhood Policy Action Plan, adopted on 6 March 2007, aims to facilitate dialogue, within a context of mutual understanding and respect for the positions of both parties, on all aspects of human rights and democracy, international and regional issues, in a comprehensive and non-exclusive way.

Both sides are looking forward to a positive and constructive dialogue during the two-day political talks.

Note that following the adoption on 17 January of a European Parliament resolution on human rights in Egypt, the Egyptian government called-off the political subcommittee initially scheduled to take place on 23-24 January.
