Twenty-five historical sites in the
Mediterranean partner countries have been selected for
restoration through ‘Adopt a Mediterranean Heritage’, a
new and innovative initiative in the framework of the
Euromed Heritage programme on 19 October 2006.
Seven heritage sites have been selected in Egypt. These
include the Villa Antoniadis in Alexandria, the
Mausoleum of Yunes El Dawadar, the Reincarnation of the
Egyptian Geographic Socity, Reviving the memory of the
Egyptian museum: digitizing the glass negatives, Hamam
Al Tanbali, the rescue of the archeologiccal site of
Qasr Ibrim, Sa'ad Halim Palace Cairo History Museum.

Following the selection the initiative goes into a
second stage, which is to find investors to ‘adopt”
these sites. Investors must be interested in financing
restoration and conservation activities, in order to
support a responsible public / private partnership for
cultural heritage with a social development and
educational value.
Euromed Heritage is a programme funded by the European
Commission and aims at strengthening relations between
the EU and Mediterranean partners. It supports
Mediterranean countries in their efforts to promote and
care for their heritage.
