General Framework

Egypt is not a so-called priority or co-operation country of Austrian Development Co-operation, therefore the respective Official Development Aid flows do not concern typical development projects, but are other activities classified as Official Development Aid in line with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development/Donor Assistance Group reporting directives (e.g. debt relief, Egyptian students in Austria, or NGO projects co-funded from official funds under the Austrian co-financing scheme).

Most of the mentioned activities concern support to students from Egypt in Austria, mainly as holders of scholarships under the long-time Austrian scholarship Programmes financed by the Department for Development Co-operation in the Austrian Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Scholarships are also granted from funds of the Austrian Ministry for Education, Science and Cultural Affairs or in the form of general costs covered by the Austrian federal budget to finance the provision of study places.

Women support Programme in Minya and Basic Education in eight Communities in Upper Egypt are two NGO projects, which received co-funding from Austrian official sources.
