Delegation of the European Commission announces the winners in its first photography competition

The European Commission is proud to announce the names of the winners of the Photography Award. The First Prize was awarded to Abdel Hakim Mustafa Ahmad, science teacher in Preparatory School; the Second Prize to Mohamed Talaat Azab, Manager at Invista; and, a jury’s special mention has been allocated to Mohamed Ezz El-Din, Engineer.

The Delegation of the European Commission in Cairo organised its first Photography Competition in Egypt. The theme of the Competition was ‘Egypt: Life in a picture’.  The aim of this competition was to promote and stimulate creativity among amateur photographers in Egypt, and to give them an opportunity to showcase their work to a wide audience.

The jury selected the best thirty pictures among 500 pictures that entered the competition. The jury was composed of a group of prominent artists in different fields: Ramses Marzouk, Chris Bouroncle, Mohamed Gabr, Randa Shaath, Aleya Hamza, in addition to Javier Menendez representing the Delegation of the European Commission.  An exhibition of the best thirty photos will be held from the 3rd till the 28th of December 2008 in the Townhouse Gallery of Contemporary Art in downtown, Cairo.  Twelve (12) of the winning photos will appear in the 2009 calendar produced by the delegation in Egypt, and the best thirty (30) pictures will be published in a special catalogue.
